In October the Port Townsend Gallery Presents Sylvia White & Mike Biskup
Sylvia White has been a fiber artist for over 35 years. She has been working with gourds and basketry for more than two decades and also recycled materials including computer /electrical wire, metals, collages and sculptural forms. Sylvia's gourd work has won recent prizes at the Western Regional Gourd Show and she is a featured artist in the book "TK"on gourd pyrography (burn writing). Featured during Art Walk, she will be displaying her recent gourd work as well as two prize winners. White has been invited to display in art shows at Everett, Port Angeles, Anacortes and Northwind Arts in Port Townsend. She is a member of a local "gourd patch" that meets in Sequim monthly.
Mike Biskup comes from a family historically rich in artists, poets, and dreamers. In his paintings, everything flows together. Colors, lines and shapes - people, places, and things are woven into one harmonious, functional system. He wants to subtly remind viewers that we humans, in all our diversity, are essentially interconnected, and with thoughtfulness, can function together harmoniously as well. Mike's work can be found in the collection of Oscar winning actress Patricia Arquette and many others, also galleries in Port Townsend and Bainbridge Island.
Work in this show - "Some of my work has been moving into a more representational (though still heavily imaginary) realm. Mostly watercolor and India ink combined, some small and larger pieces."
The Port Townsend Gallery at 715 Water Street is open from 10 to 5 Sunday through Thursday, and Friday and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm. Please join the artists for the Gallery Walk from 5:30 to 8 pm on Saturday, October 7th. For more Gallery information, phone (360) 379-8110 www.porttownsendgallery.com.
