The 3rd annual "Old School" 4th of July is almost here! Amp up the holiday by coming to the one of the biggest and best parties in Jefferson County. Featuring live entertainment, food vendors, a beer garden, hot air balloons, field games, free root beer floats, miniature golf, a watermelon eating competition, tug of war, and culminating in a dazzling fireworks display, the "Old School" 4th has something for everyone.
The free and open "Old School" 4th of July booms with local traditions. Made possible by the leadership and vision of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Thunderbull Productions, this event is homegrown and community oriented. Many community sponsors, partners, vendors, and volunteers contribute to the event's success.
"This party is epic." Says Daniel Milholland, coordinator for Thunderbull Productions and the 4th of July bash, "The community pulls together, plays together, and celebrates together in this amazing event."
The City of Port Townsend, Fort Worden Public Development Authority, East Jefferson Fire and Rescue, Washington State Parks and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department all collaborate on event safety and logistics. 1st Security Bank and Wilder Auto are the presenting sponsors of the Firework display. Many other contributions and collaborations weave together this incredible display of community celebration.
Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce is still looking for sponsors and individuals to help cover the remaining cost of fireworks as well as event coordination, porta potties, music, marketing, insurance and miscellaneous event expenses. "We want to keep this event free and accessible to the community," says Teresa Verraes director of the Chamber of Commerce. "This is the final push, and if we can't make our budget this year, we will not be able to sustain this tradition."
The 4th of July is by far the busiest day of the year for Fort Worden State Park. In addition to the "Old School" 4th, Centrum is hosting their 40th Annual Festival of American Fiddle Tunes and is presenting two performance at McCurdy Pavilion on Tuesday July 4th.
